Dink Pink Classic: More Than a Tournament

On October 17, Dinks & Dingers Social Club will host the Dink Pink Classic, a day of pickleball, cornhole, food, drinks, and community — all coming together to support those affected by breast cancer.

This event is about more than a day of competition. It is about the people behind the cause and the organizations that help make difficult cancer journeys a little easier.

A portion of the Dink Pink Classic tournament registration fees and food and beverage sales will be donated to Beautiful You by Profile, an organization that provides services and support to women and girls going through cancer, including helping them find wigs and other ways to feel confident during an incredibly difficult time.

One woman who knows firsthand just how meaningful that support can be is Connie Johnston.

Connie was first diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer on her 44th birthday. She underwent a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation while continuing to work and navigate life during treatment.

Sixteen years later, Connie received another diagnosis.

This time, she was 61 years old, and her treatment included a double mastectomy and six treatments of chemotherapy.

After her second diagnosis, Connie's infusion nurse at Lemmon Holton Cancer Center told her about Beautiful You and encouraged her to go.

Her nurse told her, "They pamper you. JUST GO and find out."

So Connie did.

At her first appointment, she chose to look at wigs.

"I was bald as a beach ball and had no eyebrows."

The team at Beautiful You helped fit Connie with a wig, drew on eyebrows, gave her makeup items, and even sent her home with a coffee mug and cookies.

But for Connie, it was about much more than the services themselves.

"My heart was happy and I felt lucky I had this little break from being miserable."

She left with something she didn't realize she needed so badly — a moment where she could feel like herself again.

"I cried all the way home because I loved my wig and my eyebrows!"

Connie also met other people who had experienced similar journeys, creating a sense of connection during a time that could otherwise feel incredibly isolating.

Looking back on her experience, Connie describes Beautiful You in a way that says so much about what the organization provides:

"I think Beautiful You is an organization run by Angels."

Why We Chose Beautiful You

Connie's story is exactly why the Dink Pink Classic is about more than pickleball and cornhole.

Cancer can take so much from someone — physically, emotionally, and mentally. Organizations like Beautiful You by Profile give women an opportunity to step away from the treatments, appointments, and uncertainty for a moment and simply feel cared for.

A wig, makeup, a pedicure, a massage, or even a cup of coffee might seem like small things. But during cancer treatment, those moments can provide confidence, comfort, and a reminder that you are still you.

This October, we are proud to bring our community together to support that mission.
